On Monday August 8, 2016 Massy Insurance made two(2) contributions to sports in Saint Lucia, the first, costing close to fifteen hundred dollars’ worth of cricket sporting gears to local cricket star, Kimani Melius.
Kimani Melius had a storybook season in 2015, leading his national team to glory, setting all-time national records and making the West Indies team. The youngster, a student at Babonneau Secondary School and a resident of Boguis, set the world alight when he hit the highest individual score ever in local schoolboy cricket. According to the most ardent of record-keepers, Kimani’s innings may well be the best knock ever in local cricket and the best ever by a schoolboy in the Windward Islands.
For his efforts, Kimani was chosen to lead the Windward Islands Under-15 team. And he duly led the West Indies tournament in run-scoring with 139. He also played for the Windward Islands Under-17 in July 2015, ending with the third-best average for his team, despite missing out on two matches on account of illness.
Kimani would also go on to make the West Indies Under-16 team, which toured England. Upon his return, he took part in the Sandals Cricket Academy, hitting 115 and 129 on consecutive days, his 9th and 10th centuries.
The second contribution to Sports was is in collaboration with the National Cricket Association – a presentationof tickets to the Principals of St Mary’s College and Piaye Secondary School for the finalists in the 2016 Massy United Insurance Under 19 Inter-Secondary Schools’ Cricket Competition to attend the test match between the West Indies and India at the Daren Sammy Cricket Grounds (August 9 – 13). This offer also includes a stipend for food and beverages. It is the hope that this endeavour will aid in further peaking the interest of the young cricketers in the sporting discipline of cricket.
Massy United Insurance remains committed in its efforts to further develop youth cricket in Saint Lucia.
